The award recognises outstanding achievements in airfield operations, maintenance, and safety across UK aerodromes. It give importance to airports that demonstrate excellence in airfield management, including infrastructure upgrades, operational efficiency, and adherence to the highest safety and environmental standards. Judges will evaluate entries based on innovation, regulatory compliance, and initiatives that enhance runway performance, lighting, ground handling, and sustainability. Entry is by a 5-page A4 PDF submission; the judges will be looking for a clear plan and evidence that it is delivering on core objectives, paying particular attention to the criteria listed below.
- Operational Excellence & Safety: Evidence of best practices in airfield management, maintenance, and compliance with safety regulations.
- Infrastructure & Technological Advancements: Demonstrate improvements in runways, taxiways, lighting, and navigational systems.
- Environmental Initiatives: Outline sustainability efforts such as carbon reduction, wildlife management, or noise abatement.
- Collaboration & Efficiency: Show how coordination with airlines, ATC, and ground services has improved airfield operations.
